Transfer replacement coverage in the new UI
Availability: Use the classic workflow below while the new warranty pages are unavailable. The new UI steps in this section apply when your account has Covered assets and Service requests under Hardware.
After a Workstation Assurance replacement arrives and you have confirmed it works, transfer the remaining coverage from the original workstation to that replacement. Use the original service request so the coverage and replacement stay connected.
- Open Hardware > Service requests and select the original workstation's request.
- Check the client and original asset's serial number. In Replacement asset, select Transfer coverage when it is available.
- In the Transfer coverage drawer, enter the replacement's Serial number, Model, and Manufacturer. Add a Hardware name if helpful.
- Compare those values with the replacement device and its inventory record. If it already exists in inventory, use the details for the device belonging to the same client.
- Select Complete transfer and wait for confirmation.
- Confirm the request shows Coverage transferred, then check the replacement's coverage details.
Check device identity
The serial number and manufacturer identify the replacement, so check them carefully. When the replacement is already in inventory, the transfer must match the correct existing device in the purchasing account and source client. Ambiguous or incomplete matches require correction; do not enter another serial number to work around the error.
A replacement that is not yet in inventory can require warranty lookup before coverage is associated. Do not assume completing the form creates a fully synced hardware inventory record.
If the action is unavailable or fails
The transfer action appears only for eligible requests. If manufacturers cannot load, use the retry action before submitting. If the transfer fails, read the error and correct the replacement details or contact Support with the original request reference.
Keep the original asset and service-request information until the transfer is confirmed. This workflow moves the remaining coverage; it does not buy a new term or remove the original device from your integrations.
