Manage Hardware settings in the new UI

Use account hardware types to define the replacement cost and expected lifespan that clients inherit. Client-specific replacement settings can override these account defaults.

  1. Open Settings > Hardware > Types.
  2. If a flat table appears, search for the hardware type. Select its Replacement value or Maximum replacement age to edit that value.
  3. Enter a whole-number replacement value and confirm the edit. Choose the expected lifespan from the age options.
  4. Wait for the successful update, then check the value in the row.

A replacement value of 0 means zero cost. A maximum replacement age of Disabled turns off age-based replacement for that type. These values have different meanings.

Create a type

  1. Select Create hardware type.
  2. Enter a unique name, replacement value, and maximum replacement age.
  3. Create the type, then assign it to the appropriate assets from the Hardware table.

Delete a custom type

Built-in types cannot be renamed or deleted. To remove a custom type, use its delete action. If assets still use it, choose a replacement type and select Reassign hardware. Reassignment runs in the background and the source type stays in the list. Once reassignment finishes, delete the unused type. A limited client view may show fewer assets than the account-wide usage check.

Accounts using categorized types

If the Types page shows Hardware type categories are not available here yet, select Go to Manage Asset Types. Use Manage custom hardware types for categories, subtypes, and integration mapping. The flat table instructions above apply only when that table is shown.

Existing client overrides continue to take precedence when you change an account default. Due-soon thresholds and classic Hardware Lifecycle Report options are separate settings; this table does not replace those controls. Editing requires the corresponding Hardware Settings permission.

For the classic interface, see Managing Hardware Settings — classic UI.
